How to clean the range hood filter?

Cleaning the range hood filter is an important step to keep the range hood running efficiently. Here are the detailed cleaning methods:
1. Determine the filter type
There are several types of filters for range hoods:
• Metal filters: Common in most modern range hoods, used to capture grease.
• Activated carbon filters: Used in recirculating range hoods, mainly to absorb odors.
• Disposable filters: Usually made of paper or fiber.
2. Prepare tools and materials
• Warm water
• Dishwashing liquid or special degreaser
• Soft brush or sponge
• Baking soda (can be used to deal with stubborn oil stains)
• Towel or rag
3. Cleaning the metal filter
1. Remove the filter
• Remove the filter according to the range hood manual.
• Usually, you can remove it by pressing the buckle or sliding the filter.
2. Soak the filter
• Pour warm water into a sink or large basin.
• Add an appropriate amount of dishwashing liquid or special degreaser and stir well.
• You can add 1-2 spoons of baking soda to enhance the degreasing effect.
• Soak the filter completely and let it stand for 10-15 minutes.
3. Scrub the filter
• Use a soft brush or sponge to gently scrub the filter surface to remove oil stains.
• It is not recommended to use rough tools such as steel wool to avoid damaging the filter.
4. Rinse the filter
• Rinse thoroughly with warm water to ensure that there is no residual detergent.
5. Dry the filter
• Wipe the surface moisture with a towel and place it in a ventilated place to dry naturally.
4. Activated carbon filter
• Activated carbon filter cannot be cleaned and can only be replaced regularly. It is recommended to replace it every 3-6 months.
5. Disposable filter
• If it is a paper or fiber filter, it should be replaced directly with a new one. It cannot be cleaned.
6. Clean the inside of the range hood
• While cleaning the filter, wipe the inside of the range hood with a damp cloth and mild detergent to remove oil and dust.
7. Install the filter
• After making sure the filter is completely dry, install it back into the range hood in the same way as before.
Tips
• It is recommended to clean the metal filter every 1-3 months to maintain the performance of the range hood.
• If there is a lot of oil stains, you can extend the soaking time appropriately or use a professional degreaser.
